When we spoke to Peter Norton on the Podcast we discussed ways for entrepreneurs to stay in peak fitness. We all know that our mindset affects out work and so it’s our duty to be in the best shape we can be.
Two of the top challenges Peter listed were sleep and nutrition. It is really easy for many people to get overwhelmed and overworked and end up with an overloaded sympathetic nervous system. This leads to poor sleep patterns and poor nutrition. Over time people move towards instant gratification to make themselves feel better which leads to poor choices that compound over time.
Don’t panic however, there is a way out of this spiral!
It’s all about forming new habits. Now we have all heard it takes 30 days to form a new habit, so that really all we need to get into it, 30 days.
The first step is to get that sleep routine sorted so here are 5 top tips to do this:
- Set an Alarm for bed
- Set an alarm to get up
- Don’t take technology to bed
- Create a quiet dark environment for rest
- No techn for an hour before bed
These tips ensure that your brain has time to wind down and understand it’s time for bed. The alarm helps your body into a routine so that it starts to naturally know when it is time for bed and to wake up.
On nutrition it is best to plan ahead. Go through your cupboards and see what is in there and in the fridge. Once you finish up sweets, chocolate, heavy carbs and anything else that might be a bit heavy for your stomach, then start to buy in veggies and fruit. Look for recipes for easy stews, salads and veg based recipes. Make sure you get all your food groups in moderate portions every week. This doesn’t mean go cold turkey and start eating leaves, it’s a gradual process of weeding out anything that’s not so healthy and replacing it with healthy food. With all the online recipes these days it’s so easy to print off nutritious recipes and base your weekly food shop on them.
