What happens if you want to move career and life?
What if you want a new life?
How do you do it?
We spoke to Ece who tells us exactly how she did it!
When you are preparing to embark on a new venture, preparation is everything.
We might immediately think about things like tax and visa’s – all the practical stuff really. This is all really key and you have to get the practical bits locked down.
When our own Marie Odlfield moved to Holland she was given two weeks to move and within that time had to arrange accommodation, banking and transport! That was a bit easier though because Marie had been asked to go to a new job so half of the adventure was set.
Ece is an entrepreneur and was changing career from a more engineering focussed job to events and marketing.
The first thing you need to get straight in this position is what are your transferable skills?
This is the most important part of career change and one that is glossed over frequently.
Make a list of all the skills you have such as:
- Communication
- Clear Writing
- Speaking at Conferences
- Organisation
- Project Management
When you break down your skills in this way you can see there are so many more jobs open to you. Normally jobs are advertised in terms of key skills along with any specific skills (that you might be able to learn). This leaves a huge wide open job market for you to go to. Rather than searching ‘Engineer’ you can search for jobs using project management such as engineering, events management, PA, wedding planner etc etc.
Even if you are not planning a huge move like Ece and Marie do a quick check of your transferable skills and check what else you might do. As Ciccone Prince says on our podcast, once you reach the top of one mountain , changing mountains gets a lot easier!
